City of Alma
The city of Alma and Bacon County share a 110-acre recreational area for team sports, swimming and picnicking. Additionally, four city-owned parks and six privately owned facilities provide many recreational opportunities.
Alma, known as the national blueberry capital, hosts the Blueberry Festival annually in late June. This three-day festival includes crafts, food, entertainment and blueberry picking.
According to 2000 Census, the City of Alma had a population of 3,236 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population decrease of -11.7%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
